History of Veneficium
It is not known how long the realms beyond the Great Divide existed before humans set foot in them, but we do know when the first fey folk accidentally flew into Earth. The year was believed to have been 20 B.C when a young Druid Priestess named Chervil rescued a young fairy princess who had accidentally fallen through the Great Divide and landed somewhere in ancient England. As a thank you gift, before the fairy disappeared, she handed Chervil a special amulet. She called it the Dragonstone Amulet and said it was a link to her realm and other worlds. The Amulet became a family heirloom and Chervil’s great-granddaughter, Eirwin, passed the amulet down to her two granddaughters, Christiana and Gladius in the year 45 A.D., just before they moved to Rome with their mother and new step-father.
Christiana and Gladius never exactly fit into their new home in Rome. The two girls were branded outcasts because they refused to give up the Celtic magic their grandmother had taught them in South-East Wales. Both girls longed to live in the realm of the fey’s that their grandmother spoke of so fondly. One day Gladius painted a portrait of Christiana’s dream man for her, who turned out to be a fallen God, named Bran. Christiana used the amulet that her grandmother gave her to wish Bran were real and he urged her to use the amulet to wish herself away from her cruel stepfather. She wished herself, her sister, Bran, and a gladiator that Gladius fancied beyond the Great Divide.
Christiana and her husband, Bran became the first rulers of Veneficium, the first High Sorcerer and Sorceress Queen. Gladius and her husband Mabon started Veneficium’s judicial system. They were both the first Tribuni and they ruled a just and fair court. They ruled in peace for many years until they passed away and passed on their kingdom to their children.
Veneficium remained a quiet and peaceful kingdom, until a millennia later, when a young sorcerer grew discouraged with the government and wondered if they was a way to harness darker magic. His name was Gorence and he wrote an evil book he called The Libra Ab Damatio. He used this to raise an army of demons and lure some of the good sorcerers over to his side. The Dark Magic ward lasted for many years, until Gorence was killed in battle and the book was rumored to have been lost forever. Now I believe that the book hasn’t been lost. Gorence is rumored to have taken a wife and daughter, but no one knows for certain who they are. I shall keep my eyes open and report anything I hear to the High Sorcerer.
Historian and High Elder of the Veneficium Apprentice Academy-
Baradosa Callous
Note: Bardosa mysteriously disappeared not long after this was written. Maybe Gorence's wife and daughter discovered what he wrote.
